History
The Houston Rockets have been in the National Basketball Association (NBA) since the 1967-68 season. The team started in San Diego and after four losing season the Rockets was sold to a Texas company and moved to Houston. Throughout the years and season, the Rockets have had a host of Hall-of-Famers in the early teams like Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, and Calvin Murphy. In 1984, the Rockets drafted Hakeem Olajuwon to become the face of the franchise. The Houston Rockets continued developing talent and added pieces until 1994 when they won their first NBA title under new owner Lesile Alexander. Then a year later won another NBA title becoming the fifth franchise in league history to boast back-to-back titles.
In the 21st century, The Rockets haven’t seen the same success than in the 90’s. In the first part of the 2000’s, the Rockets drafted Yao Ming and signed Tracy McGrady to make a one–two punch. The tandem helped the Rockets gain some success but was unable to produce a NBA title, hardly advancing past the first round of the playoffs. The Houston Rockets are beginning to develop and acquire talent and seen some success with a 23-game winning streak most recently (Houston Rockets, 2011).
