Entering in my last week of my internship, at the beginning of the week I had pre-plan vacation with my wife because we was celebrating our one year of marriage on this Monday. However, the highlight of the week was helping out with the Entertainer’s Auditions. I wasn’t in charge of this event but I was providing support for my counterpart and help her with the event. The major audition is the Rocket Power Dancers. This is where I was in charge of the judges and get results from table to the results room.  This was a very fun event to work.

This was the week of my last basketball tournament of the summer. I also attend a promotional event at a local community shopping center. We were out there to promote all the Rockets upcoming events. Then I had to prepare of the last basketball tournament. A couple days before the event, my mentor and me did a site check and knew we had to do a half-day tournament and shorten the amount of teams for the tournament. On the day of the tournament, we had a mini problem with registrar but were easy resolved and the tournament was great once again. We were able to stay on time also. One of my highlights of the week was the fact that I was able to attend the Jeremy Lin Press Conference. The controversial move for one of the famous Asian-American. It was awesome to be part of the media frenzy. This was a great signing of the organization because it has boost morale of the fan base.

During this week, the other intern and I was in charge of a big grassroots marketing event. One of her major events during her tenure was Entertainers Auditions for the Houston Rockets. So we planned an event that for two days we would deliver flyers and promote the upcoming auditions. For about three days, three different promotional teams drove all over Houston trying promote the Entertainers Auditions. We attended different dance studios and dance events trying to get these performers to come and try out of the Houston Rockets dance teams. We spend numerous of hours researching dance studios, the event was great to get out and interact with fans. During this week, I was able to sit down with the Corporate Services Manager and discuss what she does for the organization. After our meeting, I am excited about opportunities in the corporate service department within any sports organization. I believe this department would utilize my work ethic and my relationship building skills to help maintain corporate partnership with the sports organizations.

This week was a short week because of the holiday. Most of my days were filled with market research and data entry. However during this week, I was able to use my connections and secure one of the local papers to write a brief article about the Houston Rockets free basketball tournament. Also, I participate in a community service event with the Rockets. My mentor and I attended a local food bank and pack boxes of food to the elderly. It was a great feeling to offer my time and give back to the community.

At the beginning of the week, I had the best opportunity to work with the event coordinator of the Toyota Center, which is where the Houston Rockets play, on Monday and Tuesday they were hosting Coldplay and I got to shadow her and work with the production staff for Coldplay. They want a big light display with the fans and we help pass out wristband to fans that would light up during the show. Coldplay are great performer and it was a great show. After the concert, my week was filled developing games for the draft party for the Houston Rockets. With are the moves the Rockets made before the draft, they ended up with three first-round picks. At the draft party, I was excited to see what the organization would do in the first round. However, that night I was in charge of Chandler Parsons, who is the starting small forward for the Houston Rockets, and his appearances during the whole night festivities. I was given a schedule of appearances he needed to make that night and I had to make sure he stay on task. He was a great individual to work with I had a lot fun with him and the whole night was a success and the rockets pick up three key picks for the future of the organization.

This was game week for me because my first event was taking place. After going on vacation most of last week, marketing suffered a bit as the number of teams were low at the beginning of the week. My mentor and I decided to prepare more marketing material for the upcoming tournament and go to more local places trying to promote the event. One of favorite departments within the organization is the corporate service department and I had the opportunity to deliver end of the season gifts to corporate partner. The next couple days were preparation for the tournament on the weekend. We were unsure about the turnout for the event because the social and e-marketing teams were unable to post our tournament up on the web. However, we generate an email and sent the message to past participants and were able to secure enough teams for the tournament. On the day of the tournament, I was very anxious because I knew I was in charge and I have to report the event went off without a hiccup. Only problem was the lack of teams but we knew it was because the lack of e-marketing, roots efforts.

During this week, I was preparing for my basketball tournament the next weekend. My mentor and I thought of a marketing event to promote the upcoming tournament. I began working on the preparation for what called the promo tour. We had Marketing Associate go around to areas of known places where people plays basketball and interactive with fans and pass out marketing materials. However during this week, I had a previously planned vacation for the latter part of the week. While on vacation, I talked with my mentor on a daily basic through email and a couple times on the phone. This communication carries on throughout the duration of the internship. He provides great feedback and was an excellent teacher. He taught me different things on how the organization works on a daily basic.
